In
In February 2007, a group of individuals with a vision for helping some of the 7,000,000 orphans in Nigeria formed “ A Place of Hope – Africa”. Our passion is driven by the strong belief that each one was created by God with a divine purpose and unique gifts. Providing they survive, these orphans will be parents and adult members of society one day. They have the potential to be Africa’s future educators, pastors, medical personnel and influential leaders of their communities; but giving these children a chance at life, begins with offering them HOPE.
Hope begins with God. Without Him, there is no hope for these children. Someone must be His hands, His feet, and His voice to this forgotten multitude, that long to hear the words “I love you”, and feel the warmth of someone’s touch that cares. He has opened the doors for “A Place of Hope – Africa” to begin in Nigeria; but we cannot accomplish this enormous task alone. We need the help of individuals, churches, businesses, schools, and civic groups that will engage with us in response to the cries of those whose voices are not heard. They need all of us. We believe that together, the board of directors, site directors, churches, financial partners, and other support groups will make a significant difference in the lives of these forgotten children. We can bring a ray of hope to their empty existence and impact their lives forever. We can give them… A PLACE OF HOPE!

The members of the staff of APOHA seek to establish orphan villages for children who are struggling alone without the support of a family unit. Our goal is to provide a loving environment, spiritual guidance, clean water, education, and much needed medical care for these unfortunate children. Our efforts will be guided by a belief that sharing our lives, our time and our finances can make the difference in their lives. We will determine to do this by being honest in our dealings, true in our words and actions; and we will strive with great passion to effect positive change for all who come in contact with the ministry of
APOHA.
GOALS
-
To
provide a home for children who have been orphaned by the ravaging
effects of poverty, disease and political conflicts in Nigeria and who now live in the streets of the
cities and towns.
-
To
teach, train and equip these homeless orphans with academic, social, spiritual, and the
life principles and skills that will enable them to become successful members
of society and contributing elements in their world, all the while remaining in
tune with the culture of their native land and people.
-
To
engender a community of orphan families who become responsible for their
existence with as much assistance as needed, but with a vision to become as
independent of foreign donations as possible, by inspiring and teaching
agricultural skills and techniques, small business models, and scholarship.
-
To
foster a long-lasting family relationship and sense of belonging among the
orphans and their house parents, teachers and administrative staff.
-
To
strive to develop each child’s unique creativity and talent to its fullest by
seeking grants and scholarships at schools and universities and actively
seeking teachers who will fill vacation period training in the arts and
technical skills.
-
To
above all, love these children as if they were our own….because they will be our
children. To smile, cry, play and
traverse life’s pathways by their side. To
give them the greatest part of us, our time, our devotion, our best, and our
example.
-
To
inspire people the world over to give a little more, to care enough to play a
part in making life better for the lost, lonely and forgotten children of Nigeria.
-
To
be a source of blessing to the small community that has given us a place to
build this “place of hope” by sharing our school, our water source, and any
other services that come our way.
-
To
consistently use the gifts, grants and funding our supporters share in the most
frugal and efficient manner, always keeping a transparent accounting of our
finances.
-
To
demonstrate the goodness and virtue of God in our everyday approach to the care
offered these children. To share our
belief in a God who knows and cares for each of them and yearns to be included
in their every moment. To lead them to a
sincere relationship with their Creator.
